Given the word "feedback" triggers a negative physical response, I really liked the alternate language Microsoft introduced (which you included above in one example) of "can I share my perspective with you?". I find this increases receptivity a ton.
And I'm going to keep using the word "feedback" in positive settings to hopefully lessen the trigger effect. 🙂 Per our exchange on the post that followed this post (Feedback Strategy), the long-term goal is candor. So building trust and ensuring as supportive of a setting as possible to share feedback will move you closer to that goal.
I remember a "Crucial Conversations" course I took at MS where they set up this scenario: "It's 5pm on a Friday when a colleague walks into your office and says in a very serious tone, 'can I share my perspective with you?' What's your first reaction." I immediately replied, "Hell yes!" Another participant had the exact same reaction, so I pinged her on the chat, "next breakout, i pick you!" We had a great conversation about the value of radical candor, and we were both celebrating having reached the point where we want to hear the non-sugar-coated truth.
